“For me, it’s like the ultimate Sunday hangout. The thought of ‘good intentions’ came to mind. Because it’s exactly that. You pop out for one or two with every good intention… and the next minute you’re heading into work on Monday morning. There’s a bit of humour in it.”

DJ Jim Breese (@jimbreese) will be heading to the Albion House Hotel (@albionhouseramsgate) on the first Friday of every month for his new residency Good Intentions, giving a Balearic flavour to the classic seaside Sunday in Ramsgate. With a career that has included residencies at Mambo in Ibiza, as well as a decade touring with Ministry of Sound, Jim will be bringing his extensive music collection to the trendy Georgian lounge, where guests can enjoy the sea views sat in classic Chesterfields and plush velvet armchairs supping on kick-ass cocktails.

The unique concept will couple international DJing talent with the hotel’s notoriously handsome Sunday roast as revellers move from the spectacular Chamber dining room into the lounge for a chillout session followed by deep house.

“Sundays have always allowed a bit more leniency with music where you can explore different things,” says Jim. “Years ago, there was Body and Soul in New York or Secret Sundays in London. So that’s really what I want for the Albion. Just a perfect Sunday - you can have a walk in the morning down the beach, you can go next door and have a roast and then afterwards you can get vibes in the lounge area.

“So I just play predominantly, and specifically, deep house. A lot of it is from the 90s, with

that chic vibe. It works in that environment, because if I play it low people can sit around and chill and have a Negroni. But if I pitch it up a little bit, it can become a full-on party.”

Having lit up Ramsgate’s Boating Pool last year and a string of Balearic live events across Thanet and beyond, Jim and the Good Intentions residency should be a must-visit for house music fans and locals alike.

“There’s an openness that exists in Rams that I’ve not really seen anywhere on the planet,” says Jim. “People are very open to hear it and to come to the events, so literally it’s been really easy to not put stuff on. It’s been very accepting and very welcoming… Ramsgate allowed me to kind of get back to my roots. So I’m quite thankful for that.”

Albion House Hotel owner Ben Irvine has sought out Jim to provide the soundtrack to his unique deep-house Sunday experience.

“When I was a younger man and had big Friday and Saturday nights, going out on Sunday was purely medicinal,” he says. “If you’re out with friends, recounting the weekend and the fun you’ve had, why not have a backdrop of good music?

“You can come for lunch and sample the delights of head chef Russell’s Sunday roast - the best in the area - and move on through to the Georgian rooms afterwards. Equally, just come for the music or drop in and drop out.”

Sunday Lunch runs from midday-4pm
