Nightingale Cider launch 'The Watch' taproom in Tenterden

Nightingale Cider adds taproom to Gibbet Oak Farm

Gibbet Oak Farm in Tenterden, the home of the renowned Nightingale Cider, will add its own apple-centric tap room experience in July.

The brand, which is owned by Sam and Olly Nightingale, has been busy creating The Watch tap room, named after the collective name for a group of nightingales.

“The whole thing is very rustic,” says Sam. “We are working with what we have on the farm, so reclaiming materials, making benches out of apple bins, using the wine and whiskey barrels we made our cider in as places to stand and drink at.

“People will also be able to sit in the yard and outside the entrance to the cidery, so we will have tables up among the tanks in the building as well.”

Friday 15th July, The Watch will be opening up every other weekend with a view to developing it next year to be open all the time.

There will be two sparkling ciders on tap, the Nightbird and Wild Disco, which recently won a silver medal at the International Cider Challenge, as well as a range of Nightingale’s bag and box ciders and fine ciders range. There will also be some other ciders they rate and a few guest beers to keep things varied.

“It’s an opportunity to invite people in to come and drink cider, to chat about what we do and get a feel for Nightingale Cider,” says Sam. “This is phase one. The second phase will be getting out into the orchard as we have the most amazing views out across the downs.”

Gibbet Oak Farm has been in the family since 1984, while a cider of the same name was first released in 2013 before Sam swapped his job in sound recording for muddy boots and overalls and returned to the farm to launch Nightingale Cider.

Nightingale Cider will add to its range with the launch of two more styles at Cider Salon in Bristol in July.
