With hints of southern American blues mixed with modern British folk, the velvet voice of Canterbury’s Luke Jackson is leading the way of new-gen country music.

Eerie echoes, meaningful lyrics and sophisticated guitar picking create the atmospheric monster album, Journals.

There seems two modes to this album; jovial campfire reminiscing tracks and bad-place recollections. Both are equally good.

The emotion that transcends through tracks such as ‘Honeycomb’ is palpable, while the vigorous energy and intent displayed in ‘Eliza Holt’ show the two sides to Jackson’s creativity. There are threads of stories as old as time in love and loss, and more modern tales that appeal and will be recognised by a new generation.

There’s even a song about a ‘Cherry Picker’, what’s not to like?
