The debut album of new singer/songwriter Roma Orme has a back story like no other.

Originally from Birmingham — now living on a houseboat in Sandwich — she grew up in a flat above the family’s Laundrette close to the Reggae epicentre of Handsworth.

The Laundrette was a social hub and melting pot of different cultures and sounds, as customers brought their vinyl to play on the shop record player. As an only child, she whiled away many hours listening to records.

Moving to London to do a Master’s Degree in Graphic Design and then working as book cover designer, it wasn’t until a near fatal boating accident that she returned to music.

The vessel she was travelling was caught in a storm, and prompted a dramatic sea rescue. Orme began write poetry as a catharsis before singing them a cappella.

Now, in 2019 she released a debut album: 'The Poster Girl of Impossibility.'

She describes it as “A musical rite of passage from cynic—to the belief that anything is possible—with a word, a breath and a beat.”

Her influences are diverse, from Cream to the Cocteau Twins and Kate Bush to Farouz. We are sure you won’t have heard anything like this before.

We have added the track ‘Pleasure Call’ to the ‘cene #KeepitKent Spotify Playlist HERE
