New 1920s Art-Deco-Designed Bar opens in Broadstairs

Reign Bar and Lounge has opened its doors in Broadstairs and finally we’re allowed inside

Reign Bar has already made quite the mark, which is quite a feat in the circumstances.

Launching last month, owners Katy and Paul King, like all others in the hospitality industry, have only been allowed to serve customers outside.

It’s perhaps not what they imagined when they first planned to open a bar in Broadstairs.

But since opening the terrace of the Albion Road bar in April, pictures of its Instagrammable decor, cocktails and grazing boards have peppered social media, teasing up the eventual grand opening.

And that day has now arrived.

The all-day bar serves up everything from morning coffee, cakes and pastries to a decadent afternoon tea and evening cocktails.

Margate designer Lee Pollock, of Lifeforms Designs, is the man behind the bar's eye-catching art deco design, which compliments the architecture of the 1920s building.

Commissioned by the Kings, Pollock says the decision to work with classic turn-of-the-century elements was a natural choice.

The opulent bar has crystal lighting, bespoke furniture, including banquette bar seating, designed by Pollock himself.

Lifeforms Design, winner at the Restaurant & Bar Design Awards, is in its 20th year and previous projects include Auberge in Waterloo, Peggy Porschen Cakes in Belgravia, Skew Restaurant & Oyster Bar in Bishops Stortford in Essex and Livin Italy, Leeds.

Katy and Paul say Pollock understood exactly what they wanted from the very first meeting.

“We are absolutely blown away by the end result at Reign and feel it is exactly what we dreamed it would be,” they added.

And finally for the couple, they are not longer bound by the unpredictable British weather.
