A long-awaited new indie picture house on Romney Marsh has finally opened its doors.

The new 46-seat independent cinema Cinemarsh (@cinemarsh) has launched at The Marsh Academy Leisure Centre, kicking off proceedings with the new James Bond film No Time to Die at the weekend.

It’s Romney Marsh’s only cinema and will have around 20 screenings a week, including both blockbusters and independent films.

It’s been a long time coming for the team working behind the scenes of the movie theatre, which has been more than five years in the making and then hampered by delays caused by lockdown and then social distancing measures.

But finally it’s here, and there’s lots in the pipeline, with new releases including The Addams Family 2, The Last Duel, Dune and The French Dispatch on the bill for October and November.

Classics such as Parasite, The Sound of Music and Harry Potter and The Philosopher’s Stone are also on the bill.

Adult tickets are £8, children (14 and under) £6.50, senior, student and concessions £7 and leisure centre members £6.50.

Run under the umbrella of The Marsh Academy, all profits will be put into either employment, education or additional resources.
