Creative Folkestone announces a brand new programme of live events for autumn 2021.

The small but perfectly formed programme presents an eclectic mix of comedy, music, theatre, dance, and more. Alongside the autumn programme a new film festival has also been announced. The Folkestone Documentary Festival will take place in October.

When the pandemic began, Creative Folkestone closed the doors to Quarterhouse, their award-winning arts centre. Since then, they have continued to present an artistic programme that has existed outdoors and online. As restrictions relax, a cautious new programme has now been revealed.

Highlights for the autumn include:

  • Theatre fans rejoice, Quarterhouse presents four new productions.
The new season starts with a first professionally staged reading of Body(s), collaboratively produced and directed by Jessica Hynes and written by E Elia.

Can I live? By Complicité is an online journey into the world of environmental activism. Sensory theatre specialists Frozen Light present a dystopian future with their show 2065. And finally, Bobby & Amy an award-winning dark comedy about foot-and-mouth disease

  • Dance returns with two new shows for autumn. Choreographer Jose Agudo combines flamenco and contemporary dance to create a dramatic retelling of Carmen. Then Kattam Katti transports you to Uttarayan, the world-famous festival in Gujarat, North India, where millions of people come together to fly kites.

  • Film continues at Quarterhouse with the ever-popular Doc Club screenings. This autumn, several films explore pioneers of painting, jazz legends, and neurodiversity. Following in the footsteps of Doc Club comes the inaugural Folkestone Documentary Festival.

  • Little Amal is coming to Folkestone. A 3.5 metre tall puppet of a young refugee girl has been walking from Syria to the UK and will pass through Folkestone in October. Join Creative Folkestone to welcome her and highlight the plight of refugees across the world.

  • Neon After School Workshops are back! This autumn, Neon returns with a new programme of creative fun for young minds. We are offering weekly workshop sessions for a variety of ages to explore visual and performing arts.

  • Live music and comedy are almost sold out, so audiences are advised to book quickly if they want to see BBC 6 Music favourites The Staves or This is The Kit. Not to mention some of the best comedy around including Mark Watson, Bridget Christie, Shazia Mirza, and more
