Whitstable’s FAR Skate has partnered with renowned pop-up store StockX to take its Karma Skateboards to the Brewer Street, Soho, site.

It’s exciting news, but what’s perhaps even more impressive is talk of a permanent Karma shop at Wembley Park opening next year, which will include a skateboarding area, too, if things go to plan.

It means the brand, which is already stocked at around 30 skate shops in the UK, will have its own dedicated store - the first one outside of Whitstable, where it all started.

The FAR Skate Foundation (@farskatefoundation) and Karma (@karmaskateboards) has been around for more than a decade and ingrained into the UK skating and skateboarding scene, so it’s an exciting move.

You can’t help but feel happy for FAR Skate, which is so much more than just a skate brand.

It’s actually a non-profit organisation, one which was set up more than a decade ago to create change and inspire positive futures for youngsters through skateboarding.

It’s a post-16 college, helping those who struggled in mainstream school or who have mental health issues, and it’s the only one of its kind, run by skaters using skateboarding to educate.

Along with maths and English qualifications, students can undertake courses in photography, graphic design and art.

Aside from the college, FAR Skate also provides skateboarding lessons to kids at its home at the John Wilson Business Park, where it also manufactures its Karma skateboards and merchandise.

There’s a shop there, too (@farskateshop), and all profits are pumped back into the skateboarding community.

With Karma being non-profit, the money made from the Soho shop and the Wembley store - like all their sales - will go back into the skate community.

FAR Skate has grown massively since it launched 12 years ago and has seen some of its students go on to set up their own skateboarding businesses.

FAR also pride themselves on their commitment to the environment, with all their Karma boards made from sustainable forests with every Canadian maple tree that gets cut down, three are planted in its place.

Once the Wembley store is open, the boards will be manufactured there, too.
