New ‘Thai tapas’ restaurant Giggling Squid (@gigglingsquid) is to open in Maidstone promising to bring a “delicious meal and moment of merriment” to diners.

The chain has more than 40 restaurants across the country, including in Sevenoaks and Tunbridge Wells, with the latest Kent addition opening in Earl Street this spring.

The restaurants, launched in 2002 by husband and wife team Pranee and Andy Laurillard, take inspiration from Thai traditions and legends and are known for their social media-friendly floral interiors and bold flavours.

The menu will feature dishes celebrating exotic ingredients found across Thailand, and all will be cooked by Thai chefs.

Giggling Squid co-founder Andy says stylish and comfortable banquets will be featured to encourage the ethos of Thai mealtimes - plentiful dishes to share and enjoy with friends and family.

“Thai mealtimes are energetic, informal, adventurous and where food is celebrated,” he said. “It’s relaxed and there’s no standing on ceremony.

“Every Giggling Squid has its own personal touch to it, and this restaurant is no different; it’s a beautifully designed space that we hope will bring a lot of pleasure to our guests.”

He says Giggling Squid’s entire ethos is centred on guests leaving their restaurants feeling fulfilled, both physically and emotionally.

The new restaurant is expected to open this spring and will be at 31-33 Earl Street, Maidstone.

There will also be a takeaway menu, with click and collect or delivery.
