After a year of being forbidden to sing in public, the thought of karaoke feels a little bit naughty.

Whipping off that mask and belting out an absolute, well, belter is a new type of rebellion.

But while your Phoenix Nights-style karaoke nights will always be a fond part of British culture, private singing booths (think Lucky Voice) have opened up a whole new type of sing-along, perfect for those who want a little less exposure.

And now, Steve Ware, from Rochester, is taking the concept even further and has launched SingPods - a pop-up karaoke booth which comes to you.

He says the idea was borne last year before lockdown so had to be put on hold, although he still managed to get the venture off the ground, building six custom pop-up karaoke chalets at All Star Lanes at Westfield London, as part of its winter village.

Steve, who has worked in the events industry for more than 12 years, says SingPods is a portable karaoke, video and photo booth, for parties, weddings, brand activation events - basically any excuse for people to have a sing and have some fun.

“SingPods stemmed from the idea that you could have the same enjoyment you would get from singing in the shower, but with no pressure and without an audience,” he said.

“It’s great for anyone who loves to sing but doesn’t want the pressure of performing. And it’s also great for people who can’t sing but want to have a go.”

Steve says the SingPod is the largest exclusive karaoke pod in the UK and is able to fit up to 10 people inside.

It offers 80,000 songs, can be used in multiple languages and has LED lighting that can be controlled inside to set the mood.

The pod also has a photo and video system so singers can record messages and pictures which can be uploaded straight to Instagram or shared with friends.

“It’s been received really well - it’s something new and a new type of entertainment,” says Steve. “There are the private karaoke rooms like Lucky Voice in London and this takes the concept and puts it on the road. We bring it to you.”

He says they offer the service anywhere, but mainly cover Kent and London.
