Created from soya bean and pea protein, the plant-based sausage is made by award-winning British firm Moving Mountains. Launched in 2019, it is the first hotdog of its kind to mimic a real Bratwurst in terms of texture and bite. This is achieved by chopping the component ingredients, rather than mincing it.

The Moving Mountains Sausage will debut at Pier Five, Chatham, where it will be served with sauerkraut, pickled vegetables, crispy onions, tandoori ketchup and mustard. Dubbed the Diggity Dog, its introduction follows the success of the Oumph! Burger, which rolled out across key Shepherd Neame outlets in 2019.

Shepherd Neame Head Development Chef Simon Howlett said: “We are pleased to be developing our range of vegan options available at the vibrant Chatham dockside venue Pier Five. The Moving Mountains Sausage will undoubtedly be welcomed by vegetarians, vegans and flexitarians, giving everyone a delicious new dish to try.

“We find the Diggity Dog pairs well with beers of all kind – but especially a crisp Pier Five lager!”

In addition to its nutritional benefits, the Moving Mountains Sausage also has 100% recyclable and plastic free packaging, and isn’t genetically modified.
