Celebrated Kent artists in joint 'Storytellers' immersive exhibition

County’s contemporary art world figures gather for Canterbury show

The works of 23 contemporary artists will form a group exhibition that’s all about celebrating the awesome connection between art and storytelling.

Curated by Nathalie Banaigs and organisers Kent Creative, ‘Storytellers’ will take place at The Beaney House of Art and Knowledge in Canterbury between 2nd December 2023 and 25th February 2024.

With artists from all walks of life, each bringing their own unique flair, Storytellers explores the idea that artworks convey narratives that spark emotions and discussions.

It’s not just about pretty pictures, colours and shapes, it’s about the stories that are told. They have this amazing power: they can change how you see the world. It’s like an emotional roller-coaster, and we’re here for it.

One of those exhibiting artists is James-Lee Duffy, who ‘cene magazine interviewed for his work with cult zine ‘Pavement Licker - read the article HERE

Internationally-renowned photographer Mr Perou will also exhibit in the show - see ‘cene’s interview with the artist HERE

Kentish icon Billy Childish will also take part in the ‘Storytellers’ exhibition - see ‘cene magazine’s interview with him HERE

Sure, the visual side of art is important – some pieces hit you from the get-go. But every artwork is often part of a bigger story, and sometimes you need the inside view to really get it. These stories might come from the artist’s own life or be inspired by wild world events, but what’s universal is that every artist turns their thoughts and feelings into a piece of art. It’s like a peek into their minds.

The exhibition will offer visitors the opportunity to access these narratives not only through written descriptions but also through audio files (using their mobile phones connected to Wi-Fi) where they will hear the artists themselves discuss their work, offering an intimate glimpse into the thoughts, emotions, and inspirations that fuelled their works. This lets you really get what the artists are all about and what stories they want to share.

ARTIST TALKS will take place during the exhibition for opportunities to listen to their stories and ask questions. Check the details HERE.
