Gravesend's Borough Market to become street food haven 'Hatch'

The team behind The Dead Pigeon and The Greedy Banker to bring food vendors, bars and entertainment to the site

Gravesend’s Borough Market is set to have a new lease of life as new operators Beer & Feast promise to bring street food vendors, bars and entertainment to the site.

The historic covered market has the potential to become one of the entertainment hubs in Gravesend (Read our article about ‘where to go’ here), with Beer & Feast owners Jamie Clark and Thomas Mudge looking to create a foodies haven under its new name ‘Hatch’.

Taking over the site in March, the pair will be looking to attract new businesses to add to the existing vendors.

Widely renowned for their popular eateries The Dead Pigeon in Rochester and The Greedy Banker in Rainham, the pair have been looking to open a market space for the past three years.

“We are very excited to be bringing our business to Gravesend.,” Says Jamie. “The town is full of potential, and we want to make the market a focal point in the development of this up-and-coming area.

“Hatch is certainly something to be very excited about, our vision for the market includes building on the street food vendors already trading in the market as well as installing a range of fixed entertainment and some food and drink-led retail.

“It’s a fantastic space which we will be utilising with a range of events, pop up markets and community led projects throughout the year.

“We have a unique opportunity to create something great, not just for Gravesend but for Kent as a whole and we cannot wait to get started.”

Beer & Feast will start work on the market in March and Hatch will be launched in the summer - the site will remain open during that time.
