Margate's Palms Pizzeria chef wins double at National Pizza Awards 2023
The live final was held in Big Penny Social
The chef of Palms Pizzeria in Margate has bagged two trophies at the prestigious National Pizza Awards in London.
At the live final held in Big Penny Social last night, the country’s best pizza purveyors were put to the test to create their own signature pizzas in front of a live audience as well as a number of other quick-fire tasks.
Margate’s Joshua Ward was crowned the Pizza Chef of the Year as he came top in the Technical Round, which challenged finalists to put together the ultimate pizza using a range of sponsored products. But arguably the bigger gong went to Ward as he also took home the Bloggers’ Choice Award, chosen by hospitality influencers.

Elsewhere, Bristol’s Zerodegrees, took the signature dish title with their ‘Cinghiale’, featuring fior di latte cheese, wild boar salami, ‘Nduja, roquito pepper, parmesan, tomato sauce and fresh basil.
The Plant-Based Pizza of the Year title was also up for grabs and went to Raphael Persighetti of Bristol’s Pizzarova.
