Savage Pencil x Ambit Pop magazine touring to Margate
Iconic arts & literary magazine Ambit to launch special limited-edition Ambit Pop edition at the Tom Thumb Theatre in Margate
Iconic arts & literary magazine Ambit (@ambitmagazine) is launching a special limited-edition of their sister magazine Ambit Pop which is guest edited by Savage Pencil (@flyzruz) - best known for his artwork for leading avant garde musicians such as Nick Cave, Sonic Youth, Lydia Lunch and The Fall.
Taking place at the Tom Thumb Theatre on 9th July, the event will feature a special film screening about the work of cult artist, Savage Pencil.
There will also an insightful workshop on automatic drawing / ‘how to channel the creative juju’ and there will be a Make Yer Own Merch workshop led by Miss Jones, who has designed pieces for Kylie Minogue and others, plus live music, special guests, and more!
All attendees will receive a copy of the brand new Ambit Pop upon arrival, and first entries will receive a free neon yellow Ambit tote bag as well. It’s set to be an incredible evening of counterculture and creative intrigue.
The AMBIT POP TOUR celebrates everything Savage Pencil has brought to culture since programming punk shows at the Royal College, through to having his own bands, to designing Sounds magazine, interviewing heroes, and making artwork for the most avant-garde musicians of the 20th century (people such as Nick Cave, Lydia Lunch, Sonic Youth, Sunn O))), Mudhoney), this tour embraces and shares that spirit.
This tour honours Pouncey’s guest takeover of Ambit (the first ‘Ambit Pop’ came in 2021 under the direction of Kirsty Allison, and was guest edited by Lias Saoudi of Fat White Family).
It is an invitation to mavericks in their own fields to re-work the framework of Ambit’s rebellion in Poems, Stories and Art since 1959, and continue publishing the finest names in British and international culture. Ambit x Savage Pencil is a de-facto publication on anti-celebrity which detourns the very idea of illustration. Each page is a visual assault.
