LADY BIRD - FACTORY FOOL

On the cusp of releasing their new EP ‘We’, the punk trio Lady Bird has set about grabbing your lugholes and giving them a damn good thrashing with new single ‘Factory Fool’.

The ‘cene favourites, hailing from Tunbridge Wells, have set a blazing new-punk barbecue of aggressive riffs, confrontational drums and provoking lyrics that grill your ears with social commentary… and they continue chucking down more firelighters with every track released - apart from 'Boot Fillers, which was just bloody, emotionally beautiful.

In the prickly new ‘Factory Fool’ we open with the wonted thrashing of guitar and percussion and the question “What the fuck is school?!”. Well, the band tell us..

“‘Factory Fool’ reminds us all of that sound. The ringing of the school bell which tells us when to eat, when to speak, when to work, when to move to the next teacher’s classroom-whose script remains written by his master’s voice, the same as from state schools through to Eaton. Ding ding, back in the ring, toe to toe-walk the line…”

But toeing the line is not something they have ever done… in-fact, the British now-custom practices of goin’ down ‘spoons, taking drugs and rebelling against a step-dad, have all been opened up to their inspection. And long may it continue.

BILLY BLOND - FUCK FOREVER

FFS, is there no genre this guy can’t turn his hand to. From the soulful slow jam of ‘Party Friend’ to the Tennessee Timberlake sounds of ‘Day Drinking’, Thanet’s Billy Blond has returned with ‘Fuck Forever’, a track that feels born out of ragga with its chill beats and guitar chops… then there is tint of patois lyrics that flow into his trademark soaring vocals.

“Simmer you sh*t down, get your bags and ting together, if you’re gon’ mess around, then we can just fuk forever”..
It has passion, it has irritation, it has… an impossibly catchy hook that steers it from summertime classic into anytime classic. It’s already on repeat.

BŠĀR - PUNCHLINE

New to us, Deal’s Benjamin Royston, also known as alt-pop, synthpop, electro-funk purveyor BŠĀR has released debut EP 'Revelations of a Neurotic Mind Pt. I'.

The multi-instrumentalist producer sets about showcasing a penchant for original, multi-layered pop with strong melodies and colourful arrangements.

Benjamin says: “Revelations of a Neurotic Mind Pt. I' takes the listener on a cathartic journey, a blueprint for dealing with the commonly-shared anxieties of life; unrequited love, dissatisfaction and self-delusion.”

A beautifully polished track, we have picked out single ‘Punchline’ as our favourite from the EP - it has a sprinkling of Tame Impala, a touch of Phil Collins, a slice of The 1975 and even a smidgen of Simple Minds, but don’t let that worry you, it still maintains an ultra modern and unique feel.
