New Classes and Events at The Art Haus Folkestone

Events include life drawing, screen printing, kids classes and The Art Haus Social

Independent art supplies shop The Art Haus in Folkestone has announced programme of events and classes for all ages to kick off 2024!

Screen printing, life drawing and hand weaving are all taking place in-store at 3 Grace Hill, which doubles up as a print studio and event space.

The team will be collaborating with some brilliant local artists and creatives to make these workshops happen, and are encouraging local creatives to come forward for more ideas for classes in which to share their skills.

SCREEN PRINTING

After the success of the Introduction to Screen Printing workshops in December 2023, they are now planning to run screen printing workshops every month, and will have chances for beginners, both kids and adults, and more experienced printers.

Owner of The Art Haus, Alex Sowa has joined forces with Folkestone-based expert screen printer and tutor at City Lit, Adam Hogarth, to create a fun, three hour session for beginners which teaches you the whole process.

Participants come away with a set of posters and a canvas bag. For those with previous experience who want to print their own designs, we are putting on a full day intermediate workshop with lunch included in the price. They will also be running a kids introductory class in March!

Beginners £50, Sunday 21st January; Intermediate £95, Sunday 18th February. Kids £40, Sunday 3rd March.

LIFE DRAWING

Every Tuesday evening guests can come along to the shop for a couple of hours to draw from life and share their work with fellow artists. The tutorless sessions are facilitated by co-founder Rosie, and cost £15 which includes paper and basic materials. Classes tend to fill up well in advance, so best to book early!

BEGINNERS HAND WEAVING

Local creative and expert weaver, Victoria Streeter, is coming in to help people find their zen and create a beautiful woven mini wall hanging using different weaving techniques including plain weave, soumak, weaving with roving, loop pile and rya knot.

They will be putting on a beginners hand weaving workshop for kids, and for adults in the evening, with wine! Participants come away with a mini wall hanging and adults get a mini tapestry loom to take home with them.

Kids £20, Sunday 4th February 10am-1pm. Adults £35, Thursday 8th February 6-9pm.

THE KIDS HAUS

Every first Sunday of the month, the store will be closed for a day of workshops for kids - starting on Sunday 4th February.

Kicking off with hand weaving in the morning with Victoria Streeter, then the popular Power of the T-Shirt class in the afternoon with Emily Allen. Classes can be booked separately - suitable for kids over 6 years, but creative under 6s are welcome if they are accompanied by an adult.

On Sunday 3rd March there will be an introductory screen printing workshops for kids - based on the popular screen printing workshop for adults, but slightly less technical and loads more fun! £40 for three hours and come away with a handful of posters and a canvas bag. Suitable for kids aged 8 and up.

ART HAUS SOCIAL

On the Last Friday of every month, The Art Haus will be putting on a social event for £1. Each time a speaker will be invited to give a talk on a chosen topic, and attendees will be encouraged to give their two cents after they’ve had a chance to loosen up with some alcoholic and non-alcoholic refreshments.

The next Art Haus Social is on Friday 23rd February 6pm - 8pm.
