Fella barber wins top gong the Hair Awards 2023

Kent hairdresser Tommy Winding has triumphed as Men’s Stylist of the Year at the Hair Awards 2023 (@hairmagazine).

Tommy is part of the Fella (@fellahair) group – a four-strong portfolio of barbershops with outlets in Canterbury, Folkestone, London’s Carnaby Street and its own unique adapted Airstream (@fellaairstream), which became the fourth Fella outlet last year.

Recognising the hair heroes of the High Street and salons up and down the country, the Hair Awards is the insider’s guide to the top products and people in the hair world. With categories ranging from the best shampoos to Britain’s most talented stylists, an award from Hair magazine is voted for by readers and top industry names.

Tommy has been a male stylist for six years, originally training and working in London and now sitting behind the shiny doors of the Fella Airsteam. The lovingly crafted piece of work has found a home at Kent University where it happily attracts amongst the students, people from all walks of life that appreciate the quirkiness and convenience of the new site.

Tommy says: “I’m chuffed to bits to win this award and I’m really proud to be part of the team at Fella. I love the brand, the salon ethos, and everything the Fella logo stands for. Whether you are working in Canterbury or Carnaby you wouldn’t be able to tell the difference – the Fella philosophy is to treat every single client that walks over our threshold the same – with respect, warmth and total integrity.”

Joining Fella allowed Tommy’s dreams of renovating an Airstream to come true. It’s an extended arm of the Fella’s business and has effectively made the team a fully ‘mobile hairdressers’. Tommy got the Airsteam shipped from Colorado and has since made sure it is practical both inside and out. As a stickler for efficiency, it has all the conveniences to make it ideal for a ‘barbershop on wheels’ and it’s comfortable for the clients too.

Tommy says: “I think the appeal of the Airstream has always been the fact that the options are endless in terms of where I can go and the people I could potentially meet.”

With this award under his belt too, who knows where his next journey could take him…!
